Note on admission: Under Article 7 of the United States Constitution, the Constitution was not enacted until nine states had ratified it. Therefore, technically Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina, and New Hampshire (the first nine states) all entered the union together on June 21, 1788, when New Hampshire became the 9th state to ratify the Constitution. By the time of the first presidential election, eleven states had ratified the Constitution (but only ten participated in the election). For these early states, the date is the date ratified rather than the date admitted.
